Aims & Scope

Journal Overview

The Journal of Smart Education, Artificial Intelligence Integration & Sustainable Innovation (JSE-AISI) is a peer-reviewed, open-access scholarly journal dedicated to advancing theoretical, empirical, and methodological research at the intersection of education, artificial intelligence, digital technologies, and sustainability. It provides an interdisciplinary forum for examining how technological innovation shapes educational theory and practice, institutional development, and sustainable progress.

The journal welcomes scholarship that critically investigates the conceptualisation, development, implementation, and evaluation of emerging technologies across educational settings. It prioritises contributions that offer substantive theoretical insights, robust empirical evidence, methodological advances, or critical analyses of the opportunities, limitations, and implications of technology-enabled innovation. Particular attention is given to educational quality, ethical responsibility, inclusion, institutional capacity, and long-term sustainability.

Aims and Scope

The journal aims to advance rigorous, evidence-informed scholarship on the relationships between educational innovation, artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and sustainable development. It encourages interdisciplinary engagement among researchers in education, computer science, information systems, educational technology, organisational studies, sustainability, and related fields.

Its principal readership comprises researchers, university faculty, postgraduate students, educators, instructional designers, educational technology specialists, policymakers, and practitioners concerned with the development and responsible application of emerging technologies in education.

The journal’s scope includes, but is not limited to, the following areas:

  • Artificial intelligence in education: Generative AI, intelligent tutoring systems, adaptive learning, educational analytics, AI-supported assessment, and human–AI collaboration.

  • Smart education and digital learning: Technology-enhanced pedagogy, intelligent learning environments, digital educational platforms, immersive technologies, accessibility, and inclusive learning design.

  • Pedagogy, curriculum, and educational innovation: Instructional design, curriculum development, assessment, teacher education, professional learning, and evidence-based pedagogical interventions.

  • Ethical, responsible, and inclusive AI: Algorithmic fairness, transparency, privacy, accountability, academic integrity, AI governance, and equitable access to emerging technologies.

  • Sustainability and educational innovation: Education for sustainable development, sustainability literacy, environmentally responsible digital infrastructure, green computing, and the long-term sustainability of technology-enabled educational systems.

  • Educational leadership, policy, and institutional transformation: Digital leadership, institutional readiness, strategic governance, organisational change, technology adoption, quality assurance, and the implementation of educational innovation.

  • Emerging technologies and future learning: Multimodal AI, educational data mining, digital twins, virtual and augmented reality, computational approaches to learning, digital citizenship, and future-oriented competencies.

The journal considers original research articles, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, theoretical and conceptual papers, methodological studies, and evidence-based case studies. Quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods, experimental, computational, and design-based approaches are welcome where methodologically appropriate and supported by a clear scholarly contribution.

Interdisciplinary submissions are particularly encouraged when they establish meaningful connections between technological innovation, educational processes, institutional practices, and sustainability. Research in biology, medicine, health sciences, and other fields may be considered when its principal contribution is directly relevant to education, learning technologies, professional education, or the journal’s stated aims. The journal is not intended as a general outlet for research that falls outside this remit.

Editorial Standards and Peer Review

The journal is committed to editorial independence, rigorous peer review, methodological transparency, and responsible scholarly communication. Editorial assessments consider originality, significance, theoretical or conceptual grounding, methodological appropriateness, evidential quality, clarity of reporting, and relevance to the journal’s aims and scope.

The journal follows a double-anonymous (double-blind) peer-review process. Authors’ and reviewers’ identities are withheld from each other during review, although complete anonymity cannot always be guaranteed. Reviewers are selected according to their subject expertise and relevant methodological knowledge. Editorial decisions are based on the scholarly merit of submissions and are not determined solely by authors’ institutional affiliations, seniority, or professional reputation.

The journal particularly values manuscripts that move beyond descriptions of technological tools to offer meaningful theoretical, empirical, or methodological contributions. Submissions should identify a clearly defined research problem, engage critically with relevant scholarship, justify their methodological choices, and explain the significance and limitations of their findings. Claims about educational effectiveness, technological performance, institutional improvement, and sustainability should be proportionate to the evidence presented.

Where relevant, research involving artificial intelligence or digital interventions should describe the technological approach, its intended function, evaluation procedures, and associated ethical considerations. Transparent reporting of limitations, analytical procedures, and data availability is encouraged where appropriate and consistent with ethical, legal, and confidentiality requirements.

Further information on editorial assessment, peer review, and manuscript processing is provided in the journal’s relevant policies.

Open Access and Publishing Policy

The journal adopts an open-access model intended to facilitate the dissemination and accessibility of scholarly research to international academic and professional communities. Its publishing practices are guided by research integrity, responsible scholarship, and transparent communication.

Conditions governing copyright, licensing, access, and any publication-related charges are specified in the journal’s published policies. Any applicable article processing charges, waivers, or other fees will be communicated clearly to authors before the relevant publishing commitment is made. The journal’s specific copyright, licensing, and fee arrangements should be consulted for the applicable terms.

Research Ethics and Publication Integrity

The journal expects authors, reviewers, and editors to uphold recognised principles of research integrity, accuracy, fairness, confidentiality, and accountability. Authors are responsible for ensuring the originality of submissions, appropriate attribution of sources, accurate reporting of findings, disclosure of relevant conflicts of interest, and compliance with applicable ethical and regulatory requirements.

Research involving human participants, personal data, or other ethically sensitive materials must comply with relevant institutional and regulatory requirements. Where applicable, manuscripts should report ethical approval, informed consent, and measures to protect confidentiality and personal data. Authors must disclose the use of artificial intelligence in research or manuscript preparation in accordance with the journal’s applicable policies.

Plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, and other forms of publication misconduct are inconsistent with the journal’s standards. Concerns about research or publication integrity, including issues identified after publication, are handled in accordance with the journal’s established procedures and applicable publication-ethics guidance.
